This tune forms part of the Algerian & Moroccan music called Chaabi, a type of cafe music played in groups that includes influences from Andalusia, Paris and the older music of North Africa. The term itself - Chaabi - simply means ‘folk’ in Arabic. To my ears it has African combination of rhythms that ‘swings’ - just like jazz.
